Episode 49: There are three genres: comedy, tragedy, and garbage

It's an episode for endings! Will finishes off a run on Captain America by Ta... Tahh. Tah-Nehis... Naheesi — Ta-Nehisi Coates, with vol 5: All Die Young pt 2. He also kicks in Black Cat vol 5: I'll Take Manhattan and Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer vol 14: Chameleon Conspiracy. Steve contributes the Generation X Underground Special, and finishes three series with Maverick vol 2 #8-12, X-Factor vol 1 #143-149, and Excalibur vol 1 #118-125.

Episode 48: Heroes reborn? In this economy???

Thankfully, the 2022 reboot is a lot better than the first time through — meaning, those horrible 1998 comics Steve is stuck with. Heroes Reborn: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Heroes Reborn: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Companion vols 1 and 2 (2022) for Will this week. For Steve, X-Man #32-38, Elektra vol 2 #15, Longshot One-Shot, Quicksilver #4-6, Cable/Machine Man Annual 1998, Machine Man/Bastion Annual 1998, and Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #353-355 (1998).

Episode 47: Medium-Sized Reign of X Podcast #1

The Krakoa-era X-Men are back! We set out to do a Giant-Sized podcast, covering the first 5 volumes of Reign of X, continuing our our previous series on Dawn of X and X of Swords, but we only made it through volumes 1-4 (2021). Hence, the slightly reduced size.

Episode 46: Hawkguy, bro!

Dipping back into the MCU, the hype boys get a heaping helping of Hawkguy. But first: comics! Will's got Maestro: War and Pax, Eternals vol 1: Only Death is Eternal, and Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer vol 13: King's Ransom, featuring the debut of the much maligned livestream suit — all from 2021. Steve goes to town with Excalibur vol 1 #115-117, X-Men Unlimited vol 1 #18, X-Men vol 2 #71-72, Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #351-352, X-Factor vol 1 #142, and the Bishop: XSE miniseries, all from 1998.

Episode 45: Jubilee learns the true meaning of Christmas

What is the world like now that Gnomon and King in Black are done? Back to our usual antics, I guess. Will takes on Avengers by Jason Aaron vol 8: Enter the Phoenix, King Deadpool vol 2, Fantastic Four by Dan Slott vol 7: The Forever Gate, and Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon (all from 2021). Steve makes his triumphant return to 90s X-Men with X-Force vol 1 #72-76, Deadpool vol 3 #12-14, and Generation X vol 1 #32-39 (all from 1998).

Episode 44: King in Black and the End of Gnomon Finale — What is Gnomon?

It's the end of an era for the Hype pod as both King in Black and Gnomon come to a close! Will, as advertised, takes on Black Cat vol 4: Queen in Black, Savage Avengers vol 4: King in Black, Spider-Woman vol 2: King in Black, Symbiote Spider-Man vol 1: King in Black, The Union: The Brittania Project, and Venom vol 6: King in Black (phew!). Steve, at long last, finishes Gnomon by Nick Harkaway, and we get to finally discuss what it all means.

The countdown continues! Will takes on the King in Black miniseries side-stories: King in Black: Atlantis Attacks, King in Black: Avengers, King in Black: Gwenom vs. Carnage, King in Black: Namor, King in Black: Return of the Valkyries, and King in Black: Thunderbolts.

On Steve's end, yet another upheaval from Gnomon by Nick Harkaway in Chapter 20: "Catabasis."

Episode 42: King in Black and the End of Gnomon, part 1

Will's on the latest giant Marvel crossover, King in Black, while Steve is counting down to the end of his long series on Gnomon by Nick Harkaway, so we figured we'd combine the two! In this episode, we've got the main crossover title, King in Black, and Chapter 19 of Gnomon, where the entire novel is thrown on its head, again.

In this episode, Will overcomes his crippling packrat addiction and reads Immortal Hulk vol 9: The Weakest One There Is, Taskmaster: The Rubicon Trigger, and Curse of the Man-Thing (all from 2021). Steve took a week off of Gnomon to do some amateur script doctoring of director Rian Johnson's 2019 movie Knives Out.

We forgot to do the intro for this episode so I'm putting it here instead: This is Hype is my Superpower, a podcast where two best friends talk about the stuff we're hyped on — most frequently, comics.

In this episode, Will tackles Black Panther Book 9: The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda vol 4, and Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing vol 2: Here We Make Our Stand. Steve continues the Gnomon by Nick Harkaway train: chapters 17 and 18, and the return of Constantine Kyriakos.
