Episode 09: Giant-Sized Dawn of X Podcast #2

After such a tardy first Dawn of X podcast, we decided not to tease it at all this time. Quickly taking care of some appetizers first (Will: the rest of Spider-Verse: Spider-Zero (2020); Steve: 1997 issues of X-Factor, X-Men, Deadpool, Excalibur, and X-Force), we then settle down for the main course: the conclusion of the first arc of Dawn of X (vols 5 and 6, 2020).

The levels of hype are starting to get out of control.

Ghost Rider's Wild Ride and #MadelyneWasRight

First piece of news: Will was a guest on another podcast! Go listen to him on Superhero Ethics where he talks about race and Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

In this episode of this podcast, Will works through his vacation reading backlog, including Silver Surfer Black (2019), Ghost Rider: the War for Heaven books 1 & 2 (2006), Savage Avengers: to Dine with Doom (2020), and Spider-Verse: Spider-Zero (2020). Steve continues to struggle through 1997 — specifically, what the hell Marvel was thinking bringing back Madelyne Pryor. Finally, they discuss the trend of Hollywood movies being forced into franchises.

Episode 07: Giant-Sized Dawn of X Podcast #1

Will and Steve put aside everything else to go deep on Dawn of X vols 1-4 (2020), and gush at about one of our new favorite issues of any comic book, ever. Indies also get a bit of love when we answer a listener question: what non-superhero comics still hold a place in our hearts?

It's not an April Fools joke guys, I promise. We actually finally talked about Dawn of X. For real.

Episode 06: Why Didn't Super Harriet Tubman Stop Colonialism?

With Dawn of X still on the horizon, comic reads take a back seat this week (besides Captain America by Ta-Nehisi Coates vol 3: The Legend of Steve (2020) on Will's side, and Imperial Guard (1997) on Steve's. Instead, the boys talk about the role of historical figures in a "shared universe" continuity, debate quick reboots vs long-running titles, and answer a listener question: Which Marvel characters would we most love to write?

Episode 05: Conan, Hell, and the Status Quo

Lots of books, lots of digressions into nonsense. Will dishes on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, The Life and Death of Conan Book Two, Avengers by Jason Aaron vol 5: Challenge of the Ghost Riders, and Ghost Rider vol 1: King of Hell (whew!) Steve talks about Domino, the Juggernaut one-shot, and a look at the X-book status quo of 1997.

Will and Steve talk Wandavision! But not until the end, so don't you worry your pretty little head about spoilers. In between, we answer a listener question, and Will talks Venom: Absolute Carnage and Ghost Spider vol 1 (2019); Steve discusses Venom: Tooth and Claw, Logan: Shadow Society, and Deadpool #1 (1997).

We start the show with a new recurring feature where we dive deep on a comic we both loved — in this episode, House of X/Powers of X (2019). Next, Will discusses the rest of Tales through the Marvel Universe (2019) and Steve talks about some more 1996-7 crap. Finally, we reminisce about how we both got into comics in the first place.
